This is a great book with lots of types of afghans and easy to make.

I own two of Vanna White's afghan pattern books. This was my third.
I found this book "Color It Beautiful Afghans" a disappointment because several patterns were repeated, just in different colors. And also because to create the beautiful "Kilim" afghan on the cover, you need at least one skein in almost every color! Like 40 skeins of yarn. At regular price on Lion Brand's website, that would cost you over $160! At a lower price at Joann's it would still cost you over $130. That is a lot of money, especially in this economy. I felt this book was nothing more than a "sales pitch" for the new yarn. Yes, the yarn colors are beautiful. But Lion Brand would have done better to promote the yarn by showing one afghan pattern with several color combinations recommended to the side or at the end of the patterns. Vanna's kids are beautiful, and sure have grown up since her earlier books.

Although the patterns and colors in this book are beautiful, I am finding my first project (the log cabin style baby afghan) a bit disappointing. The strips that appear in the pattern's photograph are much wider than the actual pattern results. Although I've completed the same number of strips that appear in the photo, my afghan is only about half the length and width of the finished size. I've checked my guage and it's correct, so I fault the instructions!

Although I intend to continue the project until it's big enough, I'm not enjoying having to switch colors so frequently, and I don't think the narrow strips are as attractive as the strips in the photo.

In this book, Vanna builds on basics to increase your "vocabulary" of creative tools. Use it all just as presented, or use it as a starting point to make more varied and spectacular projects.

Vanna's Choice Color It Beautiful Afghans is a keeper for beginner and novice crocheters. The directions are presented clearly. It's also a super brush-up for the more experienced.

If you are looking for a new addition to your crochet library, you won't go wrong with this.

Loved the book. Can't wait to try out the suggestions. I've only been crocheting for a little over a year. The instructions seem clear and concise. I loved the ideas for color combinations. Can't wait to start putting these ideas to the test.
