Product Description
This contemporary collection of wraps showcases the work of 18 knitwear designers that include Lily Chin, Nicky Epstein, and Jo Sharp. The designs for these ponchos, capes, stoles, and capelets vary from simple to challenging and explore shape and silhouette possibilities in a host of techniques, including stitch patterns, color work, lace, beads, crochet, and felt. A glossary is provided, containing all the information necessary for even a novice knitter to successfully create one-of-a-kind fashions. The book also includes an in-depth section on designing and embellishing, making it a companion for future creativity. All knitters and crocheters, from the most demanding to those just embarking upon larger projects, will be inspired by these stylish designs that stretch the definition of a poncho.

Nice variety of shawl and wrap designs   July 23, 2008

What I like about this book is that there is a wide assortment of designs, including lace, cables, rib, and color and they use a variety of yarn weights. The instructions state what kind of yarn the pattern uses as well as the yarn that the designers actually used to knit the pictured piece--this is especially useful if you are not good at guessing what yarn-weight something is made out of. Charts are also included as well as schematics. One word of warning is although the title states knit and crochet pieces, most are knit. Overall, excellent book.

  Great resource.   June 9, 2008

I originally purchased this book because of a specific pattern. I figured it would be worth it to buy the book (instead of trying to find a back issue of the magazine it was published in) because I figured that there would be plenty of good patterns and I wasn't disappointed.

  Wonderfully Wrapped!   April 5, 2008

What a great pattern book this is! I have finished two of the wraps and am working on a third. The extra pictures are helpful in the process of the knitting and the variety of patterns are inspiring.

I didn't like this book, and I'll tell you why.....   February 24, 2008

First of all, the editors need to understand the difference between a Vogue photo shoot and a do-it-yourself photo shoot. The pictures in this book are arty, just not particularly good if what the viewer wants to see is details of the garment. And could someone please buy those poor models a comb?

Secondly, for millennia knit patterns have been written in a certain way that makes it easy for knitters to use. We all learn the lingo and then can use any knit pattern. That is, until we come up against the gobbledegook in this book. I have been knitting for 59 years, and while I was not stymied by the directions in this book, I was frustrated and angry. Knit patterns are not meant to be graphed. That's for cross stitch and needlepoint. Besides, the graphs were way too small. Perhaps the editors reduced their size to allow for more high-fashion shots of the models (you know, the ones with the problem hair I mentioned before).

Finally, the design notebook at the end...can we say pretentious? Yes, I definitely think we can.

Anyway, I didn't buy this book. It was a gift, obviously from a non-knitter. I hope she doesn't find out, but I'm selling it on eBay.
